Tensions flare up at KDP meet over MLA's presence despite suspension

A quarterly Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) review meeting turned contentious on Tuesday after Shivamogga City MLA SN Channabasappa's presence was questioned by Congress MLC Bilkis Bano, citing his suspension from the Legislative Assembly.

SCHOOL Education and District Minister Madhu S Bangarappa called for immediate relief to families whose homes were damaged by rain in recent years, saying delays in compensation and facilities are unacceptable.

Chairing the quarterly Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) review meeting at the Abdul Nazir Saab auditorium at Zilla Panchayat here on Tuesday, Madhu said revenue officials and local leaders will soon meet to take swift action.

He directed civic officials to be proactive, address public complaints and prevent rain-related mishaps. He warned that negligent officials will be held accountable.

During the meeting, MLA Sharada Pooryanaik raised concerns over forest department notices being issued to long-time cultivators. She termed it inhumane and urged strict action against officials bypassing government orders. Madhu instructed the district administration to take firm action against such violations.

Madhu also honoured Dikshita R, who secured the top rank in second-year PUC examination. He noted that around 79,000 students will appear for free supplementary exams, calling it a proud moment and a first-of-its-kind initiative in India.
