DESPITE the severe heat, people celebrated Rama Navami festival, marking the birth of Lord Rama, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu, in Davanagere and Chitradurga on Sunday.

Since morning, devotees thronged Rama and Hanuman temples in twin districts and paid their respects to Lord Rama. Rama Navami is celebrated on the ninth day of the Chaitra month. Prior to Rama Navami, organisers of the festival were busy distributing panaka (Sweet fruit drink) and kosambari (green gram, onion, cucumber, coconut garnished with splintered mustard seeds) to the devotees.
