Benakappa D G, President, Machenahalli Industries Association, shares his views on the occasion of World Environment Day, highlighting the association's initiatives and commitment to environmental sustainability.
On the occasion of World Environment Day, could you share some of the key initiatives the Machenahalli Industries Association has taken to promote environmental sustainability within the industrial zone?
June 5th is celebrated globally as World Environment Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness and encouraging action for the protection of the environment. At Machenahalli Industrial Area, we have made it a priority to contribute to this cause. From the very beginning, our industrialists have taken up the responsibility of planting and maintaining greenery along the footpaths as a social commitment.
Given that our zone predominantly comprises foundries and allied industries, we ensure strict compliance with the environmental guidelines laid out by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB). Many industries also maintain green spaces within their premises to promote a cooler, cleaner work environment.
We export castings and components to various international markets, adhering to ISO systems to meet global standards. Foreign clients regularly audit our plants to verify compliance with environmental initiatives such as green manufacturing, carbon credit management, and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which is set to become mandatory by the Government of India for exporters. Carbon credits are tradable permits that allow a limited amount of greenhouse gas emissions, typically measured in tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e).
