Govt committed to implementing SEP: Min

State Education Policy (SEP) panel has submitted draft report to chief minister

PRIMARY and Secondary Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa said state government remains committed to implementing the State Education Policy (SEP). He said a draft report is currently with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who will make the final call on necessary changes.

Speaking to media persons here on Sunday, Madhu said the State Education Policy Commission, led by Prof Sukhdeo Thorat, has submitted the draft to the chief minister. "The SEP proposes significant changes in higher education compared to pre-university education. We will implement the policy once it is finalised," he said.

When asked about opposition from some sections of society demanding the implementation of NEP 2020, the minister said the government would implement the SEP with students' best interests in mind.

He also said that the effective implementation of guarantee schemes has contributed to social and economic equality, adding that the government plans to introduce more constructive measures.

Commenting on the rampant 'meter' interest mafia harassing borrowers, he said the chief minister has already chaired a key meeting to regulate micro-finance firms and prevent predatory lending. "Authorities have been directed to implement strict measures to curb these practices," he said.
