- EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

The Indian government has introduced significant revisions to passport regulations, set to come into effect in 2025. Under the updated rules, individuals born on or after October 1, 2023, must present a birth certificate as the sole proof of their date of birth when applying for an Indian passport. This change is part of the newly amended Passport Rules of 1980, as per an official notification issued recently. The birth certificate must be issued by the Registrar of Births and Deaths, the Municipal Corporation, or any other authority designated under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969. However, applicants born before October 1, 2023, will not be subject to this new requirement. They may continue to provide alternative documents with existing guidelines.
