1L cusecs of water flowing towards delta districts, NDRF deployed

A team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was deployed on the banks of the Cauvery river at Gunaseelam in Tiruchy on Monday as surplus water released from Mettur dam is being discharged from the Mukkombu barrage.

The Tiruchy district administration has issued a flood alert to people living in low-lying areas along the river banks.

With Karnataka discharging surplus water from the Kabini and KSR dams, the level in the Cauvery river at Hogenakkal touched 1.25 lakh cusecs on Monday.

According to officials in the Central Water Commission in Dharmapuri, the level is expected to increase as catchment areas in Karnataka have been receiving rain.

The storage in Mettur dam reached its full reservoir level of 120 feet for the fourth time this year, and all surplus water is being released into the river.
