The Congress party's ambitious state-wide restructuring initiative in Gujarat, spearheaded by senior leader Rahul Gandhi, is off to a rocky start.

The party, struggling to regain its foothold in the state that has long remained a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stronghold, has initiated a "marathon exercise" to overhaul its district and city-level committees. However, murmurs from within suggest that the process may not go as smoothly as the high command envisioned.

At the core of this massive reorganisation, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has deployed an unprecedented 183 observers—one national observer per city and district, each accompanied by four state-level leaders.
