Panchamasalis' Pressure Tactics For 2-A Quota Unconstitutional: CM

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday termed Panchamasali Lingayats' "pressure tactics" for reservation under 2A category unconstitutional and their actions indicate that the state government is not serious about their demand.

Replying to a question by BJP MLC Hanumant Nirani during Zero Hour in the Legislative Council, the CM said there are procedures for adding or removing any community from the Backward Classes category.

As per the Supreme Court constitutional bench's order of 1992, the government must set up a permanent backward classes commission for addition or deletion of communities from the category. The commission has to look into various aspects and follow the set procedures before giving its recommendations, he said.
