Several works taken up sans grants; MCC unable to clear pending bills
THE Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) is facing a severe financial crisis, struggling to find a way out of its economic predicament. The revenue collected from various sources has not met expectations, while expenditure continues to surpass income.
Several developmental works have been undertaken without grants, leaving the civic body unable to clear pending bills of contractors. With the corporation caught in a dire financial situation, it has approached the state government for additional grants. Revenue from sources such as water tax, property tax, and trade licenses is estimated to generate around ₹1,000 crore annually for the corporation. However, a significant portion of this amount is spent on salaries and maintenance, leaving only a fraction for the city development. The corporation has suffered a financial blow of ₹450 crore, and officials are struggling to figure out how to bridge the gap.
