CENTRAL Silk Board member secretary P Sivakumar said India's sericulture, from fabric-centric, is moving towards other sectors including developing pharmaceutical applications.
Inaugurating a training programme on sericulture and silk industry organised by Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) at Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute (CS-RTI) on Friday, Sivakumar said while Chinese sericulture sector is basically entrepreneur-centric model, Indian sericulture is basically farmers and livelihood centric model. When the board was established in 1948 the production of raw silk was 1,242 metric tonne which was 6 per cent of world's silk production, now it has reached to 39,000 metric tonne with 42 per cent contribution to the global si
