College roof collapse: No action yet against construction company

EVEN after two weeks of the tragic incident where the entire roof of the Maharani's Science College, an heritage building, collapsed crushing a worker, the district administration is yet to take action against the contractor and the engineer for negligence.

It is said that the district authorities are under pressure to initiate action against the construction firm as it is owned by a political leader.

On January 28 evening, the entire roof of the first floor of the dilapidated heritage building collapsed killing 32-year-old worker Mohammad Saddam aka Saddam Hussain, a resident of Ghousia Nagar in Mysuru.

His body was retrieved from the debris the next day by fire service personnel.

As a small portion of the first floor had collapsed during monsoon in 2022, the government had sanctioned funds to demolish the entire building, and construct a new structure on the site.

The workers were removing the window and door frames which were highly valuable.
