They demand immediate halting of road-widening project on Hyder Ali Road

- EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE @Mysuru

The felling of over 40 trees on Hyder Ali Road in the second week of April had triggered a strong response from environmentalists and citizens concerned, who are now demanding stricter regulations and greater transparency in safeguarding urban greenery.

Under the banner of the Action Committee for Environmental Conservation, these groups have appealed to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to take urgent steps to protect trees, particularly in his hometown of Mysuru.

Led by Parisara Balaga founder Parashurame Gowda, the committee submitted a formal memorandum to the chief minister through the deputy commissioner on Wednesday.

In the memorandum, they emphasized that Hyder Ali Road is a significant heritage route in Mysuru. "The recent cutting of nearly 50-year-old trees along this stretch was described as a cruel and shocking act, leaving many residents deeply disturbed," the memorandum said.
