Udupi Traders in Soup Over UPI Turnover Limit, Awareness Session on August 4

A situation of sorts has arisen with some small business owners in Udupi district reportedly having received notices from tax authorities after their annual turnover through UPI transactions crossed Rs 40 lakh - the threshold requiring mandatory GST registration.

This comes after a similar situation was reported in Bengaluru last month, where small traders found themselves under scrutiny.

The affected business owners, without GST registration and unaware of compliance rules, had unknowingly triggered red flags. Many said they simply routed UPI payments through their bank accounts by helping their regular customers.
