Duo request the state government not to wind up the ongoing SIT probe under pressure
PRESIDENT of the Rashtriya Hindu Jagarana Vedike and a key figure in the 'Justice for Sowjanya' campaign Mahesh Shetty Timarodi has demanded a thorough investigation into what he described as the hurried and suspicious disposal of a woman's body in Dharmasthala in 2010.
Speaking at a press conference in Ujire on Sunday, Timarodi alleged that local police failed to conduct a proper investigation into the woman's death, which had all the indications of murder. "The body was discovered at a lodge in Dharmasthala, yet the police rushed to dispose it of without following the due process," he alleged.
Activist Girish Mattennavar, also part of the 'Justice for Sowjanya' campaign, presented documents including a burial notice issued by the Dharmasthala police outpost on April 7, 2010, and a payment receipt from the Dharmasthala gram panchayat. He claimed that it reveals "a scandal involving the illegal burial of murdered women's bodies" in the temple town.
According to Mattennavar, the burial notice stated that an unidentified female body was found in Sharavati Lodge, located within the premises of the Sri Manjunatheshwara Temple. "Access to rooms in the temple-run lodge requires valid ID and address proof. So why did the police fail to trace the victim's identity?" he questioned.
