Trump Tariff Churn Across Global Economies

Reportedly authorised a study on retaliatory actions that Brazil could take for the punishment imposed by Trump.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry will have 30 days to determine whether the US tariffs fall under the Economic Reciprocity Law. The measures could also include suspending trade concessions, investments, or intellectual property agreements. Lastly, Brazil announced plans to buy several domestic products hit by the US levy, such as acai, coconut water, mangoes, honey, fish and Brazilian nuts to help producers tide over the crisis.

Japan Historically, Japan often found itself in the US' crosshairs over trade and tariffs. If the 1980s trade war was due to auto exports, subsequent years saw both countries sparring over export of textiles, steel and semiconductors. In 2025 though, Japan chose to avoid a direct confrontation, and instead gave in to Trump's demands.
