Efforts on to drive out jumbos at Poolakunnu

IN THE wake of an elephant attack which killed an elderly man in Meppadi, two teams of biologists, beat forest officers and watchers, led by the section forest officers, have been deployed in the Poolakunnu, Kadoor and Puzhamoola areas for tracking the animal.

Poolakunnu tribal settlement resident Arumugan, 67, was trampled to death by a wild elephant on Friday night while he was on his way to his residence.

Following the protests of the local residents, who complained about the regular wild elephant attacks in the area, the forest department issued an order to drive away the elephants to the forest or relocate the animals after tranquillizing them.
