No money, say families of youths missing in Russia
The New Indian Express Kottayam
|February 04, 2025
FAMILIES of two Indian youths from Punjab who fought alongside the Russian army against Ukraine and are currently missing do not have the money to conduct DNA tests, which the Indian Embassy in Moscow seeks to try and locate them.
The two youths are part of 16 Indians missing since hiring agents offered them contracts to go to Russia as "helpers" to assist the military, only to be pushed to the battlefront. Some of them are missing, and the MEA is trying to track them down.
Sources said at least eight youths have returned home, but a group cannot be traced. Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, Rajya Sabha MP, is pursuing the matter with the MEA. Seechewal wants the government to also take action against the agents involved in this job racket.
