To be inaugurated tomorrow; installations offer realistic portrayal of migrant settlers' lives
IDUKKI, known for its misty hills and deep valleys, holds a significant history of migration dating back to the 20th century, when settler farmers from across Kerala braved harsh climates and wild animals to build a life in the high ranges. While many succeeded, others faced eviction, sparking massive protests and hunger strikes that later defined the socio-political fabric of the region.
This rich and layered history is now being brought to life through the Migration Monuments Tourism Village, which will be inaugurated by Tourism Minister P A Mohamed Riyas on May 17 at Idukki Park, near the Idukki dam.
