WITH the State Delimitation Commission approving the final notification of ward delimitation process in all 14 district panchayats, the number of wards and divisions in Kottayam has gone up across local bodies from 1,512 to 1,611.

Kottayam now has 1,223 grama panchayat wards instead of 1,140, while the number of block panchayat wards went up from 146 to 157. There are now 23 divisions in the district panchayat instead of 22, and 208 municipal wards instead of 204.
