IEA Revises Global Oil Demand Growth Downward Amid Rising Trade Tensions
The New Indian Express Kottayam
|April 16, 2025
GLOBAL oil demand growth projections for 2025 have been revised downward due to rising global trade tensions, according to a report by the International Energy Agency (IEA).
The Paris-based organisation forecasts growth of 730,000 barrels per day (kb/d), a reduction of 300 kb/d from the previous estimates. The downgrade reflects the impact of rising geopolitical uncertainty, with concerns over tariffs, conflicts, and supply chain disruptions weighing on global markets. As per IEA, these factors have undermined business confidence and are expected to curb energy consumption.
