Alleges large-scale corruption in construction of Punalur-Muvattupuzha State Highway
A COMPLAINT submitted before Governor Rajendra Arlekar has alleged large-scale corruption and irregularities in the construction of one of the major roads leading to Sabarimala—the Ponkunnam-Punalur stretch of the Punalur-Muvattupuzha State Highway.
Social activist Anil Kumar M R has filed a formal complaint with the governor highlighting irregularities worth over Rs 500 crore.
According to the complaint, the actual expenditure of the 82-km highway being constructed with financial support from the World Bank at an estimated cost of Rs 748.67 crore has reportedly shot up to nearly Rs 850 crore for construction alone, with total spending—including land acquisition—crossing Rs 2,000 crore.
