Akalakunnam Sets New Benchmark for Waste Management

SETTING a benchmark for others to emulate, the Akalakunnam grama panchayat in Kottayam has launched a novel project encouraging individuals and families to engage in effective waste management.
The project, named 'Suchitva Bhavanam, Sundara Bhavanam', has already garnered statewide attention for its unique and innovative approach.
In the project's first phase, a survey team comprising of school students educated 4,929 families within the panchayat about the importance of proper waste management.
They evaluated the houses based on a questionnaire on waste management practices.
Based on the marks obtained, 10 to 15 houses from each ward were selected for recognition.
