Amid outrage over the alleged gang rape of a 24-year-old student at the South Calcutta Law College in Kasba, Kolkata Police on Saturday formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the incident and arrested a security guard of the college, taking the number of arrests to four in the crime that took place inside the guard's room on the campus.

The police stopped a BJP rally led by its West Bengal unit chief Sukanta Majumdar and detained him along with other party leaders when they tried to take out the protest march to the law college. "Majumdar and other detained BJP leaders taken to the Kolkata police headquarters in Lalbazar," a police officer said.
