The driver of the second autorickshaw, Sameer of Manjeshwar, who was thrown out of the vehicle in the impact, escaped with minor injuries.
Sources with the Manjeshwar police said that, as per the preliminary probe, the bus suffered a brake failure.
According to a family member, Hyderali had parked his Mangaluru-registered autorickshaw at the border, and the relatives were planning to take a Kerala-registered autorickshaw for their onward journey to Kunjathur.
The Manjeshwar police have registered a case. Traffic on the stretch was disrupted for hours following the accident.
