₹5 cr set aside for education & youth welfare with an addl ₹5 cr for drug-free clubs at schools
PRIORITISING infrastructure development, water management, tourism, and waste management, the Kollam corporation has unveiled its ₹1,228.57 crore budget for 2025-26. Deputy Mayor S Jayan presented the budget, which estimates an expenditure of ₹1,145.12 crore and a surplus of ₹83.45 crore.
For the IT City project announced by the state government, ₹25 crore has been allocated for IT parks and infrastructure development in Kureepuzha and Andamukkam. With water scarcity being a pressing issue, ₹100 crore has been set aside to provide individual drinking water connections to 10,000 new residents, construct overhead tanks, and replace ageing pipelines.
The revival of Ashtamudi Lake remains a key focus, with ₹25 crore allocated for the second phase of the Jeevananu Ashtamudi, Jeevikkanam Ashtamudi project. Another ₹10 crore has been set aside for cleaning and conserving major water bodies.
