This 'Angamaly diary' of riddles seeks to set a world record

At a time when digital games rule children's playtime, Joju Mathew Kachappilly has chosen to revive a fading tradition.

After a decade of research, the Angamaly-based writer has now published Mathayeede Kadamkathakal, a collection of 2,328 Malayalam riddles.

A dispatch manager in a company, Joju quietly worked on what he calls a 'mission' that bridges nostalgia and modernity. Mathayeede Kadamkathakal stands out in its presentation. Each riddle, ranging from two to a maximum of six lines, is designed to create a nostalgic yet refreshing experience for readers of all ages, including children.

The book comprises 31 chapters, covering a vast array of topics—from everyday objects and diverse animal and bird species to natural phenomena.

Walking into his ancestral home, one cannot help but notice the large collection of books adorning his living room. It is in this setting that he narrates his story. "My journey with writing this book has been long. It was a longstanding passion that took 10 years to complete," says Joju.
