AIR INDIA is set to face significant financial repercussions as London-bound flight AI171 crashed shortly after takeoff.
Under the international Montreal Convention, the airline is liable for compensation amounting to 151,880 Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) per deceased passenger, which translates to an approximate ₹1.8 crore at current exchange rates. This amount must be paid to the families of each passenger, regardless of who was at fault for the accident.
