AN 80-year-old nonresident Indian (NRI) woman has discovered to her shock that her six bighas (5400 sq yards) of inherited land in Dehradun has not only been illegally occupied but also subdivided into plots and sold for crores of rupees while she was residing in the US.
The land mafia allegedly forged documents to seize the woman’s ancestral property in Bharuwala Grant and sold it to multiple buyers. Neelam Misal discovered the fraud after seeing construction activity on her land. She filed a complaint, leading to the registration of a case against 27 accused.
Mohan Singh, the station house officer (SHO) of Clementown, confirmed registration of an FIR. “The complaint names 27 people. We have initiated an investigation into allegations of document forgery and conspiracy,” Singh said.
