Police Open Fire at Interstate Dacoit in Dharwad

POLICE in Dharwad opened fire at an interstate dacoit who was trying to escape after a failed robbery bid on the outskirts of the city on Saturday morning.
The police shot at his legs.
Two policemen, including a police sub-inspector, are injured in the incident and are being treated at KIMS Hospital in Hubballi. The accused is an interstate criminal who is involved in more than 50 criminal activities. The police are in search of his gang.
Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar said the arrested is identified as Bala Venkateshwar alias Kalyankumar. He and his gang tried to rob the house, but their plan was scuttled when the house owner, Vikas, alerted the police and his neighbour.
