DEPUTY Commissioner B Fouzia Tarannum instructed the concerned medical officers to identify private hospitals operating illegally in urban and rural areas of the district and those providing fake/traditional herbal medicine and take action against them.

Presiding over the District Health Committee Review Meeting and the review of maternal deaths in the district, she said that health committees have been constituted at district and taluk level. District Health Officer Dr Sharanabasappa Kyatnal told in the meeting that FIRs have been registered against 18 hospitals in the district. The Deputy Commissioner asked to take measures to prevent deaths of pregnant women. Pregnant women should be registered before 12 weeks and if high-risk pregnancies are found, they should be treated by a specialist at the appropriate and specified time in the hospital. She instructed the officials to take special care to prevent maternal and infant deaths. She asked to inspect the health institutions randomly. She said that disciplinary action should be taken if any mistakes are found.
