In a memorandum submitted to the CM Siddaramaiah through district administration of Belagavi, the Belagavi District Unit of the Chalavadi Mahasabha has urged the state government to officially celebrate the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj, a pioneering figure in India's social reform movement, and to expedite the installation of his statue in Belagavi city.
The appeal was submitted by Durgesh Metri, Belagavi District President of the Chalavadi Mahasabha. It emphasizes the historic contributions of Shahu Maharaj, who was born on June 26, 1874. Originally named Yashwantrao Ghatge, he was a descendant of the Maratha emperor Chhatrapati Shivaji and inherited the title 'Chhatrapati' as part of his royal lineage.
