HC Satisfied With CB Probe, Issues Notice To Cong, BJD For Agitations

The Orissa High Court on Tuesday expressed satisfaction over the progress of investigation into the tragic death by self-immolation of a girl student of FM (Autonomous) College in Balasore and said a special investigation team (SIT) probe order is not required at this stage.
The division bench of Chief Justice Harish Tandon and Justice Manash Ranjan Pathak made the observation while admitting a petition seeking direction to constitute a SIT to probe the incident.
The student succumbed to burn injuries on July 14, two days after she set herself ablaze over authorities' alleged inaction regarding her sexual harassment complaint.
High Court lawyer Shivsankar Mohanty, who filed the petition by way of a PIL, appeared in person and made submissions seeking a time-bound investigation by a SIT under the supervision of the high court.
