Police deny charge, say a drunken brawl between caste Hindu men and victim was reason for the clash
A 21-year-old man belonging to Scheduled Caste from Melapidavur village near Manamadurai in the district was attacked by three caste Hindus allegedly, according to the victim's family, for riding a 'Bullet' in the locality, late on Wednesday evening. However, police have denied the incident has anything to do with riding the high-end bike.
According to police, a "wordy duel in a drunken state" was the reason behind the attack.
Police said the rider, R Iyyasamy, sustained cut injuries to his left wrist and right arm and his condition is normal now. There was no chopping off the hand or looting of the victim's house, as alleged by Iyyasamy's family, police added.
He is undergoing treatment at Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) in Madurai.
