KL leaders hail SC verdict on role of governors

THE Supreme Court's landmark ruling that governors cannot indefinitely delay bills sent by state legislative assemblies for assent, and must act in accordance with the aid and advice of the council of ministers, has been warmly welcomed by Kerala's political leaders.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan hailed the verdict as a robust affirmation of the federal structure and the democratic rights of the legislature. Calling it a victory for democracy, he remarked that it serves as a stark warning against governors encroaching on the powers of legislative bodies.
