Hopes fade for Assam miners as rescue ops fail to make headway

MURKY water, with its static level despite constant dewatering, has made it difficult to rescue the trapped miners at a rat-hole coal mine in Assam's Dima Hasao district.
The Indian Navy, Army, NDRF, SDRF, ONGC, Coal India Limited (CIL) and district administration are engaged in the rescue mission for the third consecutive day, however, they got no success. The water was pumped out from the 300 ft deep mine. The water level is still more than 100 ft.
"Dewatering is going on constantly but the water is not receding," District Magistrate Simanta Das said.
