THAILAND'S divisive exPM Thaksin Shinawatra made a dramatic return home on Tuesday to face an eight-year prison term, just as a party linked to him won a vote in Parliament to lead.

The Supreme Court ordered the 74-year-old billionaire to serve eight years on old graft charges, though it is not clear how much time he will serve behind bars.
The move by Thaksin indicates he is hoping that a friendly government will be able to cut short his sentence, although he has said his decision to come back had nothing to do with the Pheu Thai's bid for power.
