THE horrific death of 24-year-old Angel Chakma, a student from Tripura, in Dehradun has sparked nationwide outrage, with his father’s words capturing the pain of the tragedy.
“I saw my child in a critical state. My son was saying, ‘Papa, save me,” said Tarun Prasad Chakma, as political leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, criticised the ruling administration and questioned law and order.
He accused the police of initial negligence, describing the horrifying condition in which he found his son. “I saw my child in a critical state. His left arm and leg were paralyzed because he was stabbed twice in the back. Blood was flowing from his head.”
Angel Chakma, a student from Tripura and the son of a serving BSF jawan posted in Manipur, succumbed to his injuries after being assaulted on December 9. Tarun Prasad Chakma rushed from Manipur to Dehradun along with his daughter-in-law Deepa, an officer with the Delhi Police.
