IT isa known fact that diabetes affects multiple body parts, including the heart, kidneys, eyes, nerves, and feet. But does it influence cognitive decline and neurological diseases, including dementia and Alzheimer’s disease?
To understand how diabetes affects the brain, a landmark international research collaboration —the first in India—was announced on Saturday, aiming to uncover early markers of brain ageing in people with diabetes.
The Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF), Chennai, joined forces with the Centre for Brain Research (CBR) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru and the UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) to come out with advanced research on the relationship between diabetes and brain health.
