Legal doc contains provisions on trade facilitation, rules of origin, IPR, digital trade and CBAM
THE European Union and India on Friday released the full text of the long-negotiated India-EU free trade agreement (FTA), detailing provisions on customs and trade facilitation, rules of origin, intellectual property rights, services and digital trade, as well as trade and sustainable development.
The 20-chapter agreement addresses several longstanding sticking points in the negotiations, including sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) measures and clarifications around the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
An annexure on model mediation procedures has been included in the pact, the conclusion of which was announced on January 27. The agreement is expected to be formally signed later this year and is likely to come into force next year. The EU has indicated that detailed tariff schedules will be released at a later stage.
