‘Govt should increase PLI support to solar sector in Budget 2026’

AS India is aiming to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2070, a commitment made at the COP26 summit, usage of solar energy is gaining momentum.

The government has introduced policies like PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana to give boost to the sector. Manish Gupta, chairman, Insolation Energy Ltd (INA Solar), the country’s leading solar panel manufacturing company, talks to Pushpita Dey about how adoption of solar can further be enhanced and what more the industry expects from the government. INA Solar has emerged as a strong domestic player in modules and panels. What is your road map to compete with global giants? Any plans for global expansion?

We have three units of solar panel manufacturing. Total cumulative capacity is about 1.53 gigawatt and we are also expanding to solar manufacturing up to 7 gigawatt and our unit 4 and unit 5 construction has already started in full swing in MP where we are coming up with 4.5 gigawatt solar cell and 18,000 tonne annual capacity of aluminium frame. We are also coming up with 500 megawatt of the Kusum Component in Rajasthan.
