Festive fervour crashes on platform, Kumbh pilgrims trampled

WITH devotees from across the globe travelling to Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj during the Maha Kumbh, a major stampede occurred at New Delhi railway station on February 15.
The incident killed 18 people and injured more than a dozen when passengers thronged the station, rushing to board trains to Prayagraj.
Following an initial probe, the Delhi Police pointed to a miscommunication as the main cause of the disaster. This is because two trains with almost identical names, both bound for Prayagraj, confused the passengers over platform numbers, leading to chaos and stampede.
