THE Union Budget 2026-27, presented by finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, arrives ata critical juncture for the Indian economy.
-
Considering global geopolitics and re-alignment of supply chains, the Budget proposes a road map to transition India from a consumption-led market to a productivitydriven and manufacturing global powerhouse. By anchoring the fiscal strategy into "Kartavyas", with a focus on accelerating and sustaining growth, the government has sought to implement a framework aimed at technological self-reliance and industrial scaling.
The centre piece of this year's Budget is aggressive push for manufacturing across seven strategic and frontier sectors. Initiatives and funding in the biopharma and the India Semiconductor Mission are standout initiatives. These focus on moving beyond assembly hubs into equipment manufacturing and developing indigenous intellectual property.
Electronic component manufacturing also gets significant funding, ensuring the "Make in India" engine moves up the value chain into producing high-tech goods. To maintain industrial expansion, the government has maintained the capital expenditure momentum, increased focus on economic regions and industrial corridors, logistical efficiency with freight corridors, national waterways, rare earth corridors designed to streamline cost of manufacturing, logistics and supply across sectors.
