Cong demands clarity on US role in Pak ceasefire
The Morning Standard
|May 29, 2025
THE newly appointed president of Assam Congress Gaurav Gogoi on Wednesday hit out at Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who had alleged that the Deputy Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and his wife had links with the Pakistani establishment.
Dismissing the allegations, Gogoi clarified that he had visited Pakistan only once, 12 years ago. He criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for sensationalizing the matter, likening their attempt to a "C-grade Bollywood movie" that he said is bound to "flop miserably."
"I would like to clarify that people of the state are not misled. About 14-15 years ago, my wife, who is a well-known expert in public policy, worked on an international project in South Asia focused on climate change," Gogoi said at a press conference.
