Checkmate on reluctant father: Arjun's convincing moves

ON a day his son was playing one of the most crucial games of his career, neurosurgeon Srinivas Erigaisi was busy tending to patients in Warangal, so much so that he missed Arjun Erigaisi outplay Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa in the first leg of the FIDE Chess World Cup 2023 quarterfinals in Baku on Tuesday.

Arjun would go on to lose the quarterfinal via tiebreak, but he had made the world sit up and take notice of his immense talent. When asked about his son's achievements, Srinivas, taking a break from his duties at the Srinivasa Neurocare Centre in Hanamkonda, was candid. "Actually, I was initially not interested in my son playing chess; my wish was that he enter civil services. Dreams don't always come true."
