%3L each to the kin of deceased, @1L to injured passengers, says CM
IN a horrifying accident, 11 people, including nine women, were killed and at least 54 were injured after a head-on collision between two Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation buses, carrying around 70 passengers, on the Tirupattur-Karaikudi Main Road of Kum-mangudi village in Tirupattur of Sivaganga district on Sunday evening. The bodies of three women are yet to be identified.
Police said one of the buses, driven by Sendrayan of Dindigul district, was travelling from Kangeyam in Tiruppur to Karaikudi, and the other, driven by Sudhakar of Kallipatti, was travelling from Aranthangi to Dindigul. The buses, which were coming from opposite directions, collided on the two-lane state highway around 4.30 pm.
Police and fire and rescue service personnel rushed to the spot and brought the deceased out of the buses. Many of the injured managed to get out of the vehicles on their own with help from villagers.
