Unpacking the real problems in SA's education system

IT'S been a well worn cliché that the education standards in this country are poor as compared to the rest of the world.
But this statement has to be carefully analysed. I have been teaching various subjects at various levels, including Mathematics, History, Geography, Natural Scienceat primary and high school levels up to grade 8. Also Physical Science at matric level. And know, very well, that there's very little that's not of mostly international standards in the content of all of these subjects! Most of our children are struggling because of the inability to actually cope with these high standards. Fully qualified teachers are also struggling to get basic concepts across, due to no fault of theirs.
