Iran - stand by for chaos
The Mercury
|June 23, 2025
IS THE nightmare upon us? Or has it been eliminated? Will Iran retaliate against US outposts in the Middle East? Will the Iranian leadership survive? Nuclear capacity in Iran seems destroyed. Will it return and be employed? All we know for now is that a man who wears a red hat with the words on it "Make America Great Again" is calling the shots.

It is not entirely reassuring. President Donald Trump says the US has carried out a “successful” bombing attack on three nuclear sites in Iran and says they have been “obliterated”, according to the BBC.
Israel says they were in “full coordination” with the US in planning the strikes. Iranian officials have confirmed the facilities were struck but denied they had suffered a major blow.
The strikes mark a significant escalation in the ongoing war between Iran — which the US has now bombed — and Israel. According to the BBC, one of the targets was Fordo, a uranium enrichment plant hidden in a remote mountainside that is vital to Iran's nuclear ambitions.
The full scale of the damage at the facility is not yet known. The US says it also hit two other nuclear sites — at Natanz and Isfahan.
