Immediate action needed on Fannin Road bridges

The Mercury

June 06, 2025

KWAZULU-Natal’s Lower Molweni community — west of Durban — continues to endure the devastating aftermath of the April 2022 floods, which obliterated bridges on Fannin Road, a vital artery connecting them to schools, clinics and other essential services.

The destruction has forced residents, including children, to navigate perilous river crossings daily.

Tragically, lives have already been lost, and with the increasing frequency of severe weather events due to climate change, the risk of further fatalities is a grim certainty.
