I WRITE to express grave concern over the renewed reports that US President Donald J Trump, in concert with Israeli leadership, has proposed a plan to take control of the Gaza Strip — a sovereign Palestinian territory — with the intention of converting it into a so-called “Riviera-style” coastal resort zone.
Such a proposal, while veiled in promises of development, represents nothing less than the forced displacement of an entire indigenous population and the illegal appropriation of their homeland.
The notion of transforming Gaza into a luxury destination while its native population faces collective punishment, starvation, bombardment, and blockade is a grotesque violation of international law and human decency.
