Progress is only a matter of perspective.
Take, for instance, a tech start-up called LoveBite AI. The cheery lot running the show say they're redefining the future of dining, whereas I think that they might only be hurrying along the downfall of humanity. Depends how you look at it, I suppose.
LoveBite's product is the AI waiter. Calm your horses: those imagining holograms in bow ties and tails will be sorely disappointed. Semi-sentient robot waiters are out for the moment too, though for the curious, they're still a thing in Japan (those few that rolled onto British shores in 2022 were soon rightly discarded, on the grounds of being too dystopian).
